Chapter 13
Ria woke up on Saturday and was full of a mixture of excitement and nerves. She was surprised how nervous she felt, as she had never felt like this when she had gone out with John. She signed because she knew that John did not have the same effect on her than Morgan. What would it be like to spend the day with him? Would he kiss her? She shook her head trying to get that particular fantasy out. It would not do any good to act like a giggly schoolgirl. Perhaps he was just taking her out because he had felt sorry for her at the mines? She took a deep breath. She really didn’t need to feel so mixed up before meeting him.
When she felt more settled, she made her way down the stairs into the kitchen where her parents were already having breakfast. Evan, already recovered from his ordeal, looked at her over his morning paper. ‘You’re up early my lass. Going somewhere?’ He had noticed that she had her best clothes on and makeup, not usual for a normal Saturday.
‘Mr Templeton, my boss who you met the other day, is taking me to the Mumbles and Museum today.’ She sent a look towards her Dad while she poured her coffee to try and gauge his reaction. She witnessed the slight puckering of his brow while he digested the information.
Evan inwardly sighed. His little girl was not so little anymore. He felt a little uneasy that his daughter was going out with her boss. In his experience, he had seen too many relationships break up because they did not come from the same type of background. Did he really want his daughter to go down that road? No, he didn’t. But did he have any right meddling in her life? No, he didn’t. He sighed again, young love would never listen anyway. They always thought they knew better than their parents. ‘Just be careful my girl. He seemed nice enough, but he is much older than you and he is the factory owner’s son.’
‘Oh come on now Evan. Mr Templeton is only taking her out for the day. Let her have some fun. After the accident with you and Michael and helping me with Johnny, she deserves some time off.’ Megan playfully scolded him.
‘Thanks Mam, Dad. I will be back for tea. Love you!’
They both watched, filled with different worries, as their daughter left the kitchen.
